DC Hall of Fame: Behind the Curtain

With our Sega Dreamcast Hall of Fame in the books, it’s time to wrap things up by revealing our ballots.

Participation was a tad lighter this time around than it was for the Super Nintendo Hall of Fame voting, which was an understandable byproduct of the Dreamcast’s unfortunate commercial failings. Just six bros found themselves capable of lending their thoughts this time around, and only three ballots included more than ten games. All contributions were appreciated, no matter how slight, and they can be seen below:

The vote-tallying process and all applicable tiebreakers were described in detail last month during our glance behind the Super Nintendo Hall of Fame curtain; they remain unchanged.

There’s little else to say here, as the final results speak largely for themselves. Take a look:

It made the most sense to limit the Dreamcast Hall of Fame to twenty games based on that thirty-point cutoff. Lastly, some quick observations.

  • The only game on every ballot was Crazy Taxi, which makes Crazy Taxi the Link to the Past of the Sega Dreamcast, at least here on gametimebro.
  • Incidentally, Crazy Taxi 2 appeared on only one ballot.
  • Voters seemed split when it came to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, as both the first and second installment received three votes. Only one voter placed both on his ballot, however. And only one voter left both games off of his ballot entirely. For the other four, one game warranted ballot placement and the other did not. It seems the debate over which of the two games is superior is an oddly polarizing one.
  • One voter tried to vote for Ikaruga, a game released in Japan on the Dreamcast and in America on the GameCube. I couldn’t bring myself to allow it, but, all the same – Ikaruga, folks.
  • The Typing of the Dead. Look into that one.
  • Seaman.

That’s all for now. Until next time…

Hall of Fame Time Bro is a recurring multi-part feature in which the bros put their heads together to create a collaborative list of games that deserve canonical recognition as all-time greats.
